General

Starting from a personal sensitivity to bag placement in unfamiliar environments, this project used pragmatism [1] and four rounds of studio iteration to question where bags "should" be placed in shared spaces. The project reframed everyday object placement as a situated social truth shaped by context, habit, and cultural assumptions.

Contribution to PI&V

  • Through a critical reading of Pragmatism, I came to understand that everyday "truths" are situated, changing across time and place, and can be questioned and reshaped through design.
  • Pragmatism helped me see design as a process of testing and reframing situated meanings.

Involved Expertise Areas

  • C&A: pragmatist design exploration, iterative studio making, everyday-object reframing
